A 46-year-old Stoughton, Wisconsin (68 miles to the Dells) woman received a citation for indecent conduct after an unusual police investigation that involved trail cameras and drone technology.

Stoughton Police received multiple reports from park users who discovered human feces and used toilet paper in a city park. Rather than chalk it up to a one-time incident, officers set up trail cameras and quickly identified a troubling pattern.

The surveillance revealed someone was defecating in the park during early morning hours, prompting police to deploy their secret weapon: a drone operator who successfully caught the woman in the act Thursday morning.

The incident raises questions about both public health and privacy in an era of increasing surveillance technology. Police clarified that the woman is not experiencing homelessness, though no other details about her motivations have been released–although we have our suspicions.

It’s certainly one of the stranger law enforcement cases to emerge from Dane County—and proof that modern policing has gone high-tech, even for the most down-to-earth offenses.
