In today’s world, measuring pretty much anything is a snap, with digital guages, scales that measure to the nth degree, and GPS systems that allow even cell phones to accurately measure long distances.

Maybe Green Bay Marathon officials should look into getting an app for that.

Runners in last Sunday’s marathon ran an extra 800 feet–making it 26.35 miles, instead of the required 26.2–due to some incorrect course markers being placed around the 3-mile mark.

Race officials realized the mistake after hearing from several runners that they were getting inaccurate GPS readings during the race.  They have adjusted the finish times for runners trying to qualify for additional races (although I have to wonder how they know exactly how much to adjust for each runner).

And no word on any rewards/awards from the race being modified–will be interesting to see if any of the elite runners from the race (who may have started a final sprint at the wrong spot, costing them final positioning) complain any louder…
