Next time you’re in the cookie aisle at the grocery store, you might want to stay away from products made by Best Maid Cookie Co, from River Falls, Wisconsin.

Isaac N. Thielen will appear in St. Croix County Circuit Court on March 10 after being charged with one count of injury by negligent handling of a dangerous weapon, while trying to rid the Best Maid Cookie Co. warehouse of a bird–a task he had been working on for nearly six weeks.

Thielen took the shot awhile lying on the floor of the warehouse area factory on Dec. 14, but one of the salt-and-pepper birdshot pellets apparently ricocheted and hit temporary worker Jason T. Boron in the head. It was Boron’s first week on the job.

While it is noted that Thielen was in the warehouse area of the factory when he attempted the shot–which makes the fact that a bird was flying around for six weeks slightly more palatable–it should also be noted that Boron was hit while preparing to throw a ball of dough into a hopper.

Boron pulled the pellet out of his head, wrapped it in tape, and continued working until his first break, at which point he called police. Police officers did not find any marks or bleeding, but did note that Boron winced when the area was touched.

Factory managers told police Boron left the facility at about 4pm (approximately an hour and fifteen minutes after the shooting), and was heard yelling that he was going to sue someone for getting shot. He did not immediately seek medical attention, but did go to a medical center two days later, although he became upset and left when he felt he was not being treated quickly enough.

As is the case in many Dairyland Diaries, we’re not exactly sure who (if anyone) exactly warrants any sympathy at all in the story.
